History
The Tasmanian Government and Glenorchy City Council commissioned the MyState Bank Arena, then known as the Derwent Entertainment Centre (DEC) in 1989 as a celebration of the 1988 bicentennial year. It was handed over to the Glenorchy City Council Mayor David Shields on the 14th of March 1989.
The official opening of the venue was a concert by international sensation Rick Astley, demonstrating that Tasmania now had the ability to host even the largest acts from around the world.
The Tassie Devils Australian National Basketball League team called the then DEC home from 1989 to 1996. During that time, the venue was always referred to as the “Devils’ Den” by sports commentators.
On 2 July 2020, NBL Owner & Executive Chairman, Larry Kestelman, announced that the Tasmanian Government had been successful in its bid for a 10th NBL team. It will see Tasmania hosting their own NBL team, this new team the Tasmania JackJumpers would play their inaugural season in the 2021/22 NBL series.
As part of the agreement between the NBL and the Tasmanian Government, the latter will provide $68.5 million — for upgrades for the venue formally known as the Derwent Entertainment Centre, the side’s new home arena.
In June 2021, as the arena took on a physical transformation due to the redevelopment it also took on a new name through a partnership with Tasmania’s MyState Bank and would now be known as the MyState Bank Arena.
Regarded as Tasmania’s premier entertainment venue, the MyState Bank Arena has hosted concerts, conventions, exhibitions, dinners, trade shows, assemblies, sporting events, conferences, and weddings to the delight of local and interstate audiences.
Holding 5,500 fully seated, 4,300 for a Basketball or Netball game and 8,600 general admission MyState Bank Arena is the largest indoor multipurpose venue in Tasmania.

Situated on 115 acres, Willie Smiths is 30 minutes south of Hobart in the Huon Valley, a once thriving apple-growing region that exported apples all over the globe and earned Tasmania the title of the ‘Apple Isle’.
Willie Smith’s farm went organic in 1997, thanks to the innovation of current orchardist, Andrew Smith. It was a bold move, transforming the orchard to organic, and involved a lot of new techniques and training to achieve. With a new focus on organic farming and the use of the apples in our cider, Willie Smith’s hope to bring back the glory of the ‘Apple Isle’ days once more..
